Our Pushkar Fair Tour itinerary is designed to give you an idea of what’s possible and is simply a starting point when crafting your tailor-made tour of Rajasthan and the Pushkar Fair. However, please be aware that the Pushkar Fair takes place from 4th – 12th November 2019.
A whirlwind of colour and culture, this annual event is far more than just a place to buy and sell livestock. The fair kicks off with camel races, traditional folk performances, cricket matches and even a camel beauty contest! A festive funfair atmosphere prevails over Pushkar during the mela’s two-week duration and reaches a crescendo on the night of the full moon when pilgrims take a dip in the holy lake. A photographer’s dream, one cannot help but become immersed in the sights, sounds and smells of this frenetic festival.
Your Pushkar Fair Tour adventure kicks off on your arrival in Delhi, where you’ll be met by a member of our team and chauffeured to the hotel. Take it easy this afternoon to relax, settle in, and recuperate from your international journey. Depending on the time of your arrival, if you’d like to begin exploring this afternoon you can let us know anytime – your chauffeur is always on hand and we’re only a quick call away on your complimentary mobile phone.
A guided tour of both Old and New Delhi today will introduce you to the Jama Masjid, Qutab Minar, India Gate, Parliament House, Humayun’s Tomb and the Sikh temple. The itinerary we’ve prepared in advance is a guideline and is completely flexible to your preferences on the day – you may let your guide know your interests and he will tailor the day to better suit your tastes (we’re known for our flexible approach, allowing you complete control over the pace of your trip). After exploring the bustling capital, you’ll return to the hotel in the evening.
After breakfast, you’ll be chauffeured to Jaipur for a two-night stay (flights are available should you prefer). Upon arriving in the Pink City, head to Elephant Village – a magical place on the outskirts of the city, where you can spend time up close with elephants by helping to feed and bathe them, before taking a gentle sunset walk together through the surrounding forest. Those who prefer to explore Jaipur local markets can further move on foot to an ideal market.
A full day of guided sightseeing in the Pink City. Take in the spectacular Amber Fort and City Palace Museum, as well as the Jantar Mantar observatory, Hawa Mahal (Wind Palace) and Jal Mahal (Water Palace). This evening, you have the option of a private cooking class at a family home to learn authentic Rajasthani staples such as dal (spiced lentil curry) and roti (flatbread).
This day brings you to the main event of your Pushkar Fair Tour; Pushkar and the Pushkar Fair! Here you’ll stay for two nights. On the way, you may like to stop off in Ajmer to discover the holy Dargah Sharif, before touring the bewitching little town of Pushkar by taking in its holy lake, many ghats, and rare Braham temple. Later you’ll check in to a Resort – nestled on the peaceful outskirts of Pushkar and surrounded by the Aravalli hills.
Spend the day and evening enjoying the festivities of the Pushkar Fair with your Chauffeur.
Return to the Pushkar Fair this morning. After lunch at the hotel, continue to Nagaur for a stay overnight. The area is less frequented by tourists as compared with other Rajasthani cities and so a night or two here is well worth it. This afternoon, enjoy a guided tour of Achichhatragarh Fort.
Proceed to Jodhpur today, the Blue City. Upon arriving, you’ll be assisted with checking in to the hotel for a two-night stay. Here, there’ll be time to settle in and freshen up, before your accompanied by your guide for a walking tour through the Old City this afternoon. Wandering among the tiny shops dotting these crowded, narrow lanes in the heart of the town, you’ll get a real feel for the life and colour of Marwari jewellery, utensils, kitchenware, leather shoes, trinkets, wedding clothes – you can find just about everything here (including locksmiths and indigenous dentists sitting side by side on the street). The walk will end at a rooftop restaurant overlooking Mehrangarh Fort – the venue for your private Bhopa performance (a traditional Rajasthani performance art combining singing, painting and dancing).
A guided tour of the Blue City takes in Jaswant Thada and the majestic Mehrangarh Fort. Later head out to a Bishnoi village, in the sandy outskirts of Jodhpur, on a Jeep safari. You’ll also meet a village of potters and skilled rug weavers.
Continue to Udaipur today, on a long but scenic drive through the Aravalli hills. On the way, break the journey in Ranakpur, to visit one of India’s most elaborately carved temples. Upon arriving into Udaipur, your Pushkar Fair Tour ends on a special note with a two-night stay at the fairytale-like Hotel near Lake Pichola which looks dazzling from the shore.
A tour of Udaipur today begins in the narrow streets of the Old City, on a guided walk. The Old City is built on tiny hillocks and raised areas, its lanes full of twists and turns, with plenty of charming little shops to be discovered. The hilly streets are teeming with clothing, silver jewellery and leather-bound journals. Later explore the exquisite City Palace, as well as the Jagdish temple, Crystal Gallery and Saheliyon ki Bari.
The morning is at leisure in Udaipur to relax and enjoy the Hotel. Board a fight back to Delhi this afternoon, for a last night’s stay for the trip.
