Our Jewels of Rajasthan tour has been crafted to represent the kaleidoscopic colours that swirl through the region. Beginning in the capital city of Delhi, you’ll explore the stark contrasts of both Old and New; from the narrow streets of Chandni Chowk bazaar to the tree-lined lanes around colonial Connaught Place. Next, onwards to Agra, home of the magnificent Taj Mahal. Heading into Rajasthan, the colours will begin to jump out from all directions; from the hot pinks and flaming oranges of the ladies saris to the vibrantly painted houses and buildings. After taking in the splendid forts and palaces of Jaipur the Pink City, steer off the beaten track to Raipur for a two-night stay in the rural ‘badlands’ of Rajasthan. Continue into the Thar Desert in Jaisalmer, before journeying to the ‘Blue City’ of Jodhpur to take in the majestic Mehrangarh Fort, colourful spice markets, vibrant textiles and traditional puppets. Before ending in the fairy-tale like lake city of Udaipur, make a stop in the sleepy village of Narlai to experience the slow pace of life in rural Rajasthan.
Your Jewels of Rajasthan tour begins upon your landing in Delhi, where you’ll be met by a member of our team and chauffeured to hotel. Take it easy this afternoon to relax, settle in, and recuperate from your international journey. Depending on the time of your arrival, if you’d like to begin exploring this afternoon you can let us know anytime – your chauffeur is always on hand and we’re only a quick call away on your complimentary mobile phone.
A guided tour of both Old and New Delhi today will introduce you to the Jama Masjid, Qutab Minar, India Gate, Parliament House, Humayun’s Tomb and the Sikh temple. The itinerary we’ve prepared in advance is a guideline and is completely flexible to your preferences on the day – you may let your guide know your interests and he will tailor the day to better suit your tastes (we’re known for our flexible approach, allowing you complete control over the pace of your trip). After exploring the bustling capital, you’ll return to the hotel in the evening.
After breakfast, you’ll be chauffeured to Agra, home of the magnificent Taj Mahal. Upon arriving in Agra, the rest of the afternoon is at your leisure. You can have a uninterrupted view of the Taj Mahal – without the restriction of visiting hours from your hotel, you can catch the Taj Mahal peachy pink at dawn, glowing amber at sunset and glittering in the moonlight after dark. Overnight stay at the hotel.
Today after having your breakfast your guide will introduce you to the highlights of Agra, taking in the Fort, Itmad-ud-Daulah and – of course – the magnificent Taj Mahal.
Your Jewels of Rajasthan tour today takes you to Jaipur, the capital of Rajasthan and also known as the ‘Pink City’. En-route, stop in Fatehpur Sikri (Emperor Akbar’s 15th century Mughal court, abandoned after just 14 years). Upon arriving in Jaipur, head to your hotel to relax.
Soak up the Jewels of Rajasthan today with a full day of sightseeing in the Pink City. You’ll begin by exploring the City Palace and its private rooms, as well as the Jantar Mantar observatory and a photo-stop at the stunning Hawa Mahal (Palace of Winds). Into the afternoon, continue to the splendid 17th century Amber Fort, before spending the evenings with elephants at the famous Elephant Village. This is a splendid place to spend time with elephants taking picture and understanding the behavior of this wonderful creature.
Today you’ll steer off the beaten track to Raipur, for a two-night stay at a charming Hotel. Located in a remote rural setting in the heart of Rajasthan, this is a hidden gem of a hotel with a unique concept – everything placed within the 12 small cottages has been locally sourced. This creative idea, paired with a range of bespoke village-themed excursions, allows guests to really embrace traditional Rajasthani village life. The stunning interiors are colourful, quirky, and wonderfully ‘shabby-chic’
The day is at your leisure at your hotel and relax, explore the local area, or pursue activities according to your interests. The resort has a range of excursions, both free and paid, for you to choose from.
Remaining firmly off the beaten track, day 9 of Jewels of Rajasthan today takes you to Nagaur, for an overnight stay at the charming hotel near by the Ahichhatragarh Fort of the Maharaja and was once a pleasure palace of Jodhpur. A stay at this hotel really evokes the history and pomp of yesteryear.
This morning, you’ll be accompanied by a guide for a tour of Ahichhatragarh Fort (unlike other forts you’ve seen so far, this one is still being painstakingly restored, so it’s really very interesting to learn about what they’ve achieved so far). Later, head to the golden city of Jaisalmer for a two night stay.
This morning you’ll explore the gargantuan Jaisalmer Fort, and the beautiful temples and havelis (carved mansions) that lie within. Later return to The hotel for sundowners on the dunes – which you’ll reach on camel-back – for the ultimate desert experience.
Continue to Jodhpur – the Blue City. For the next two nights you’ll stay at a hotel nestled at the foot of the mighty Mehrangarh Fort, in the heart of Jodhpur’s old city. Stepping away from the buzz of the old city and walking through your hotel is a stunning gateway entering in a peaceful oasis.
A guided tour of Jodhpur today takes in the majestic Mehrangarh Fort and a walk through the labyrinthine lanes of the old city. This afternoon, head out to the arid countryside on a Jeep safari. The scrubland south of Jodhpur is dotted with villages, their mud and thatch huts inhabited by the Bishnois and communities of potters and weavers. A tour of the area provides a memorable opportunity to observe the rhythm of daily life in these hamlets, experience the warm hospitality of the villagers, and see beautiful traditional crafts being practised.
Today you’ll head deep into the Aravali hills for a stay in the sleepy 15th century village of Narlai. One of our favourite places to stay in Rajasthan, Rawla Narlai is a charming 17th century fort which has been converted into a small, friendly, yet very stylish, hotel. The rooms are all different but traditionally furnished and surround an inner courtyard, blooming with fragrant frangipani and brilliant pink bougainvillea. Upon arriving into Narlai, your time here is at leisure to relax, explore the local area, or take part in activities according to your interests. The property offer a number of both free and paid excursions; from bird-watching by the lake to walks around the village.
Enjoy the morning in Narlai today. We’d recommend waking early for a sunrise walk up Elephant Hill – a huge granite rock looming over the property. There are 756 steps to the top, but the spectacular views are well worth it! Later, continue to the fairy-tale city of Udaipur, stopping en-route in Ranakpur to explore the elaborately carved Jain temple (one of the five great holy places of the Jain faith, this ornate temple boasts 1444 uniquely carved pillars).
Upon arriving in Udaipur later today, the evening is free to enjoy Rajasthan’s most romantic city. Udaipur is abundant with lakes and ancient water palaces. Resting on the banks of Lake Pichola, your hotel is unashamedly opulent and is something straight out of a fairy-tale.
Today you’ll be accompanied by your guide to explore the city of Udaipur. To begin, a walking tour through the narrow streets of the old city will take you through winding streets teeming with shops selling clothing, silver jewellery, and leather-bound journals. You’ll shortly approach the City Palace – this sprawling palace is the largest in Rajasthan and stands on a ridge overlooking the lake. Cupolas crown its octagonal towers, which are connected by a maze of narrow passageways. The rooms inside the City Palace all contain decorative art: beautiful paintings, colourful enamel, inlay glass-work, and antique furniture. You’ll also explore the 17th century Jagdish temple and Saheliyon-ki-Bari (a beautiful rose garden).
The morning’s free in Udaipur to relax and enjoy one of India’s finest hotels. If you would like to head out to explore further or do a bit of shopping, your driver is always on hand. In the afternoon, you’ll be chauffeured to Udaipur airport to board a direct flight to Delhi. Spend the night at your hotel which is close to the airport (handy if you’re flying out early morning tomorrow).
Your Jewels of Rajasthan tour concludes this morning as you’re chauffeured back to the airport, in time for your onward flight. Last night’s stay is completely optional and will be tailored to best suit your international flight arrangements. You may, for example, prefer to connect directly from Udaipur. Or, if you have a bit more time to hand, a more centrally-located hotel in Delhi would be more suitable.
